History of Middlesex Guildhall opens as free exhibition

August 3rd, 2013 by Sandy

The 100 Years of the Middlesex Guildhall exhibition opened on 1st August at the UK Supreme Court, Parliament Square. Admission is free to this exhibition which is open on weekdays, 9.30am to 4.30am, until 27 September.

The Supreme Court is also exhibiting 1,000 years of history on site, in conjunction with the centenary of its building. This building opened in 1913, was earlier known as Middlesex Guildhall. The site was earlier a Westminster Abbey sanctuary and buildings were built from 1805 for Middlesex Justices and administration, used for nearly 50 years. It is not located in Middlesex county’s boundaries and when the county was abolished in 1965, it became the crown court. It was refurbished to become the Supreme Court of UK from 2009. The exhibition explores, mostly the site, back to nearly 1,000 years, and tells interesting tales. Silverware, images and artifacts from the archives can be seen in this free exhibition.
