British Gas plans for free electricity on Saturdays

August 5th, 2013 by Sandy

British Gas, British biggest energy company is planning to offer free electricity to its customers on Saturdays under the plan “free electricity Saturdays”. This has been decided to balance the demand on the power grid. It is expected to be launched by mid 2014.

To avail free electricity customers are required to have smart meters which will send readings back to the company automatically. According to the chief executive of British Gas parent company Centrica, it is planned particularly to benefit low income families who consume more electricity. It might at the same time encourage few other consumers to waste free electricity, the report said.

However, consumers can strictly adopt few ideas that will help them to use free electricity efficiently. By using microwaves instead of ovens, by turning on the immersion instead of the gas boiler, by adopting new wash procedures, by saving on ironing and dishwasher, by charging the electric car and ofcourse by having a long hot bath consumers can save and at the same time make use of free electricity to the maximum.
