Free events on Suffolk Day

Suffolk Day 2019 will be celebrated from Friday – June 21 to Sunday – June 23, 2019. There will be various free events taking place in and around Suffolk for the residents of Suffolk. Suffolk Day is being celebrated annually to mark its culture and heritage. This year will be the third year with bigger celebrations.

From BBC Radio Suffolk, Radio Broadcaster Mark Murphy will broadcast for these 3 days all over the county. They will host breakfast show from the seafront in Felixstowe. There will be Suffolk flag hoisting outside the town hall and will be joined by mayors and chairs from the county along with the reading of the Suffolk Day proclamation.

On June 21, there is free reserve entry offered by the RSPB Minsmere to the residents of Suffolk. The guides at the reserve will take the visitors and explain about some of Suffolk’s special wildlife. These are free but donations are accepted.

On June 21, the Long Shop Museum located in Leiston offers free entry to their Museum along with a Community Market Place for the community to have a stand. On June 22, the museum holds ‘Proms at the Museum’.

Pubs are taking part in Suffolk Day celebrations. Isaac’s on the quay in Ipswich hosts on June 22 & 23 with live music and there will be a Suffolk Quiz on June 23 night with special Suffolk-themed menu. Gresham’s in Ipswich is getting ready for breaking the world record of more number of people taking a cream tea at a time. Please visit their website to join.

There will be special tours organized by Bury St Edmunds’s tour guides take for a tour on June 22 at 11am and 2pm and Sunday 23 at 2pm. The guides will help to explore the relationship between Bury St Edmunds and the rest of Suffolk and how Bury helped in the development of Suffolk.

There will also be many things happening such as Suffolk Pride, the Orwell challenge, the Great East swim, The First Light Festival in Lowestoft and the Ipswich Jazz Festival, etc.
