The recent storms in south-west Scotland have left local fields water-logged, which has added more pressure on affected farmers to comply with the new regulations on pollution of water resources and beaches.
A free event to raise the awareness of farmers and help farmers meet regulations, improve efficiency and get better returns, will be held on 18 February. It will be at Wester Highgate Farm near Beith, and is being conducted by consultants on this subject, from Rural College in Scotland. The free event will start at 10.30am and end at 2.30pm.
Among the speakers will be the Farm Manager at SRUC, Hugh McClyment, who will be explaining about how to cut back the use of expensive fertilizers, using slurry carefully, instead. A government representative (Scotland), Gregor Caldwell, and Lucy Fellby from SEPA, will be discussing on the new regulations. Bill Crooks, SRUC expert, will talk on the issue of soil compaction. The Wylie brothers have used a subsoiler and visitors can see the effect of this below-ground treatment. Robert Ramsayhas will be looking at alternative watering equipment, at this free event at Ayrshire.
