Free school that is to be opened in a site of the former Shirley Community Primary School in East Chesterton might create divisions in the community, it is thought. But campaigners want local authorities to take up sponsorship to avoid division in community meaning that a gap that exists already between parents sending their children to Milton Road and to Shirley might widen further. Moreover, this free school has not been named yet, a headmaster is not appointed so far and a sponsor is yet to be chosen.
Parents may have to spend less for free schools as Government funds them directly. According to the Chairman of governors at Orchard Park Primary School, North Cambridge, free schools have their own way of admitting children and hence may affect school population.
A free school will be opened in Cambourne Village College next year under the trust of the Comberton Village College. Also a free school called the Churchill Free School will be built in Haverhill by the Samuel Ward Academy for special students. A consultancy named Cambridge Education along with businesses, parents and charities help to set up free schools right from issuing application to developing it further.
