Free one hour car parking proposal rejected

Wiltshire people will not benefit from the free one hour car parking scheme. During a meeting, the scheme to offer free parking on each of the Wiltshire Council owned car park was discarded. In a conference to make a decision on the budget for the council, the Liberal Democrat Councillors and Conservative counterpart went to argue.

Liberal Democrat Councillors said that £1.53m could be fetched to bring in the scheme that will help the market and businesses in Wiltshire. By reducing the £2.3m from the communications budget of the council and removing more senior managers they could secure the funds. Cabinet member for car parking, Coun Dick Tonge said that shoppers will come to the markets where free parking is available.

Free parking will be removed for two years and this could prevent shoppers from coming to the market towns. In towns where the charges where reduces, there was hardly any effect. In many parts of the Britain car parking has been removed. Jane Scott, Council leader said that they would love to help people of Wiltshire, but through sensible plans. The current plan is risky, he added. The decision to remove the free parking will harm the shoppers and traders in Wiltshire equally.
