Wiltshire Council funds for free swimming session for children

Wiltshire Council will fund free swimming session for children this summer holiday season. These sessions can be taken up at Calne Leisure centre, local Wiltshire Council, Cricklade Leisure Centre and DC Leisure managed leisure centres. It will run from July 25th to August 30th.

This is not just having fun but getting a chance to exercise as well, Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for leisure said. Children under the age of 16 can take part in free public swimming sessions during school holidays recognised by Wiltshire Council. However those gaining entry in to the leisure centre need to produce age proof upon request. And those interested to take part in this free swimming event can contact their local pool for more information.

 

Reigate organising free cycling event

Reigate in Surrey, has organised the Reigate Cycle Festival, a free festival to be held at Priory Park this 28 July, Sunday, between 10am and 5pm. The event aims to encourage people and families to take up cycling in the county. The event wishes to capitalise on the surge of popularity for cycling owing to the heroics of Team GB’s Olympic medal winning feats.

The event will have a leading UK mountain-bike stunt team- Savage Skills, displaying their skills. A cycle roller challenge called Rollapaluza will also be held. There will be sessions on a portable cycling course that simulates a mountain-bike trail, called a “pump track”. Qualified instructors will supervise the sessions. The Reigate festival will have a skills zone, guided cycle-safari, expert advice and stalls by cycling clubs, groups and shops.

 

Groundwork Hertfordshire offers free water saving devices to St Albans residents

St. Albans residents are being offered free water saving devices and free home visits for fitting them. Primary schools of St Albans will have partners to the project, the Hertfordshire and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, visiting to teach about saving water to the children.

In a meeting to audience last week, Groundwork explained why water-use should be reduced. Against the national average of 150 litres, residents of Hertfordshire used an average of 162 litres per day, they were told. The audience were addressed by Haroon Atif from Affinity Water, who explained that this area with water supply coming from rivers, suffered particular water stress. Too much use will drop its supply levels.

 

Free event to discover archaeology secrets at The Collection

Owing to Festival of Archaeology The Collection at Lincolnshire will celebrate The Archaeology Day on 25th July 2013, Thursday at 10am through a free event arranged specially for kids.

This free event will give an opportunity for children interested in archaeology. It is mainly focussed at secondary school children who can get exciting hands on experience. Things that were discovered from the Lincoln Castle will be discussed during the event. Also, training on handling historical objects and excavations will be held.
