Owners of supermarket are distributing free food parcels and hence are urging charities to contact them. Idea behind Sainsbury’s food donation scheme is to distribute fresh food stuff to organisations and charities which would otherwise go waste to the landfill.
Plans are to distribute damaged tinned food items, cakes, bread and also fruits and vegetables to the Keigh store. This way, wastage of food and food going to landfill can be reduced, the store manager Julia Blackett said.
Left over food for the day though reaches the end of the display date is still consumable. Such foods are being given off to charities. Sainsbury’s has been doing this since 1998. To know more about this service call on Emma Buxton at 01942 758921.
