‘Love Food Hate Waste’ is the cookery class being organised by Recycle for Greater Manchester. The free session is aiming to show how to convert simple ingredients into a memorable plate of good food. Not only will new recipes be shown for amateur chefs, but the aim is to highlight the importance of “cutting down on food waste”. Tesco, the supermarket giant, has released figures on the problem of food waste, as their statistics reveal that 8,500 tonnes of food waste was generated in the beginning half of 2013. Recycling experts say a 4-member family can save nearly £680, every year, just by changing the way the food can be bought, stored and cooked.
The free session is being conducted by Gideon Foster who is part of the social enterprise teaching people of the region on cooking efficiently and cheaply. Helen Roadhouse of the organisation who helps lead the session pointed that the classes taught people to create great food on a budget. The next free session of the cookery class will be on Wednesday, 4 December. It will be held between 7 and 9 pm in Bolton, at the Halliwell UCAN Centre in Hatfield Road.
