Free bus transport for Church schools to be axed soon

January 26th, 2013 by Sandy

Free buses used by church based schools in Port Talbot and Neath will be axed soon. Although it will affect just one out of 10 students, axing will reportedly help to save about £317,000.

This move has been taken after Neath Port Talbot and several other councils have decided to adopt a policy on home to school transport. Currently Neath Port Talbot provides free transport to primary and secondary students with 2 miles and 3miles respectively. This freebie will be cut from September 2014 onwards. Students can enjoy this facility even when they move from primary to secondary school. However, only one out of ten students will be affected with this change.

Few parents are concerned about this decision as their school is not within the specified distance and hence do not become eligible for the free transport.
