A hot, healthy school lunch will be provided free to children in reception year 1 and year 2 during lunchtime. This radical measure by the Coalition government will save, over the course of a year, the average family some £400 per child, for school lunches. The scheme will be extended to to 6th form colleges and disadvantaged students who are in further education. Approximately 11,000 children in Lewisham will get in school, the free meals. The free lunch scheme would be a great relief to families struggling under the present financial crisis, besides many other advantages the children will gain according to The School Food Plan study.
