AGE UK Blackburn with Darwen along with Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s public protection service will offer free testing of any unsafe devices. People above 50 years can bring in their blanket on October 18, Friday from 9am to 4.30pm to Ewood Park for a check. There will be a specialist firm at Blackburn Rovers’ Ewood Park stadium on Wednesday, October 31 to check for any fault. Free replacements also will be made to those faulty devices but is limited to only one per person.
According to Age UK’s chief executive, every year more than 5,000 house fires are caused due to faulty blankets. And people aged 64 and more are prone to face the risk. However, blankets that are used for more than 10 years are greatly at risk. Hence, must be disposed off safely. Testing is done based on appointment only. Hence, interested persons need to book for a test by calling 01254 266620. Testing is done to make sure the winters are safe and sound. Hence, make use of this chance to the maximum.
