Lisburn’s Environmental Health Service to offer free electric blanket check

September 6th, 2013 by Sandy

Winter months remind us of the electric blankets and to conduct a thorough check of them as well. Environmental Health Service in Lisburn City Council will conduct free electric blanket testing in the Rowan Room at the Island Civic Centre on 10th September from 10 am – 4 pm. To make an appointment for free electric blanket checking, email or call Liza Gormley on 9250 9382.

Old and damaged blankets are likely to cause fires and hence must be checked before use. Accidental fires are fatal and sometimes and cause injuries. Electric blankets are supposed to be checked three times in a year. Very old and worn out blankets must be disposed off rather than taking risk on life. Second hand blankets must not be bought at all. An electric blanket can be used for a maximum of ten years only. Elderly people and those using electric blankets are encouraged to fix an appointment and make use of the free check up.
