Derbyshire County Council has warned parents not to miss out on school meals next term which might be offered free of cost. With this parents would be able to save £400 a year.

Apart from this, schools will also be entitled to get a bonus of £900 a year for those students who are qualified for the free meals. Extra funding comes under the Pupil Premium scheme. The information on those who will avail this facility will be kept confidential as only catering staff and teachers will know about it.

According to the Councillor, the average earnings have increased by 1.5% while the cost of bringing up the child rose to 4%. Hence, families must definitely make use of free daily lunches, he added.
