Undiagnosed heart conditions result in the death of atleast 12 young people in the UK every week. Keeping this in mind Cardiac Risk In the Young (CRY) is planning to help those who are affected by the sudden cardiac arrest and also to save young lives by setting up free heart screening on September 24th and 25th. CRY aims to help bereaved families and also to save young lives and young people living with detectable heart condition.
UCL students and staff can be benefited with the testing. Halina and Antony Reid will be offering free cardiac screening in memory of their son Tom Reid who died of cardiac arrest. The cause of death was unknown and sudden. There were no sign or symptom. He suddenly collapsed when he was taken to the medical paramedic after he complained of faster heart beat. His heart stopped suddenly and both the emergency team and medical paramedic team could not revive him. This sort of abnormal heart problems can be detected using ECG test.
Persons aged 14 to 35 years must sign up to register for free screening.
