Free football tournament at Buckley organised for youth

August 9th, 2013 by Sandy

A free football tournament is being organised by young people belonging to Buckley. The group of youths are organising the event on Sunday, 18 August, with help from the charity Fixers. This charity supports young people to campaign on any issue taken up by them. The football tournament has teams with five on a side, and is being organised for 15 to 21 year-olds, by a group led by Fixer Ashlea Jone, who is 19 year old. She hopes to promote a positive interaction in Buckley through this event.

In the town centre, a specially prepared football pitch will host the free event, where each of the 8 teams participating, will play the 20-minute matches. The event is also part of the festival run by the town council called the ‘Blackpool comes to Buckley festival’. Ashlea of Fixers hopes the football event will show residents that not all young people are troublemakers, hanging around the streets. Bringing them youth together with a purpose, takes them off the streets and shows the town that not all young people are all that bad.

The Public Service Broadcasting Trust had started the Fixers charity in 2008. Now obtaining a good grant by Big Lottery Fund, the Fixers charity intends to work in the coming years with more young people across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Interested teams will have to register quickly for the football tournament by the 16th of August, a Friday, using the forms available online at www.fixers.org.uk/buckleyfootball, as it is on a first come, first served basis with limited places.
