The Hillington Safer Transport Team (STT) is continuing to try to reduce cycle thefts and increase cycle security by marking cycles. Cyclists get their cycles marked and registered for free. The whole process by STT officers takes only a few minutes, using a special chemical etch security marker. All details of the cyclist and the cycle will be uploaded on to the BikeRegister database, which sends instructions to the cyclist as to how to access the ‘Cycle Log-Book’. It is an ongoing process to get as many cycles marked from Hillington. There are three simple steps to this security process. Record, Register and Report. One is to record all details of the cycle. Next is to Register the details on a proper site like BikeRegister. And Report is what you do at the Police when your bike is stolen. It will be easier to recover a stolen bike if it is security marked.
The STT have locations in Hayes and Ruislip for cycle marking for the next 3 months. In Ruislip the venue will be the car-park of Waitrose. Time will be from 12 noon to 7pm. Dates will be – 7 November (Wednesday), 5 December (Wednesday) and 16 January, 2013 (Wednesday). The venue in Haynes will be by the entrance of The Botwell Leisure Centre, East Avenue. Time will be from 12 noon to 7pm. The dates will be – 14 November (Wednesday), 12 December (Wednesday) and 9 January, 2013 (Wednesday).
