Free dental check-ups will be provided to 4000 Derbyshire residents as National Health Service (NHS) chiefs are worried that only 57% of the county people make a visit to the NHS dentist regularly. However there may be others who go to the private dentist.
Most of the ailments in the stomach are due to the neglect of teeth. Teeth play a large part in establishing a healthy lifestyle and have great influence on the health and confidence of the common people. Everyone is advised to take good care of the teeth.
The government badly wants the residents to be cautious about their teeth and to undergo check ups more often. It has granted GBP 180,000 to the local NHS, which has introduced a scheme for those who have not gone to dentist for more than two years. They will be handed over GBP 17 vouchers to meet the cost of the normal check up.
Mak Sidhu, a dentist at Park Dental in Chaddesden is happy that the government is providing financial help to the people at the current difficult times. He has come across a number of people whose teeth need fillings but they postpone either because of financial constraints or because there is no pain. They cannot afford to pay to the doctor after meeting the regular expenses like food, clothing, children’s education, and house rent etc. Unfortunately they do not understand that delaying to go to the dentist will only make things worse, pain will increase and treatment will be more expensive. Keeping the mouth and teeth in order is inevitable.
Crohn’s disease, which is due to improper digestion, HIV, diabetics, oral cancer etc, can be easily diagnosed by the dentist.
In the UK itself not less than 5,000 cases of oral cancer are being diagnosed every year.
32 dentists in the UK will form a part of the scheme, which will last until the end of March.
The charges for extractions, root canal surgery and fillings amount to GBP 47. Crowns, dentures and bridges will cost GBP 204.
Youth below the age of 18 and pregnant women are treated free.
Keith Mann of NHS Derbyshire hopes that at least now the people make use of the facility and go for regular check-ups as six new dental surgeries have been opened in Derby. An amount of GBP 3 million has been invested for new services. Help lines have been provided to guide and advice the patients in Derbyshire as well as the city.
The patients are advised to do their booking early to avoid last minute rush and disappointment.
