Mark Barret is a father of three children and he has put forward a new form of education for kids. For the proposed new school he envisions teaching of life skills like cookery, DIY and parenting, to children. Mr. Barret, a teaching assistant at Fortismere School of Muswell Hill, admits parenting skills are not for young children but they can taught self organisation. He pointed out that although parents are surprised at this idea, most of them realise the importance of working with hands. He wants to encourage parents throughout the borough to understand the value of practical skills.
He would like the proposed school to be run like a business, in order to teach the school students about finance and reality of working in real jobs. Academy Schools are free to decide their curriculum and details, as per the government’s 2012 academics legislation. If a group meets certain stipulated criteria, they are free to set up a school. They are funded by the central government directly and are outside the control of local authority.
Mark Barret and his team will start in November to approach parents and hopes to sign up around 100 pupils for the project, which they intend to start by next academic year. He said teaching organisation in life and to stop the chaotic lifestyle, managing money, fixing things, all can make a huge difference in life.
