Mrs. Tania Sydney-Roberts, founder of the first free schools in UK, plans to make a copy of it in Leeds, to be initiated during her visit to the city soon. The Free School Norwich, opened last year by Prime Minister David Cameron, is 8-times oversubscribed now. The founder and head teacher Mrs. Sydney-Roberts says the success is due to its meeting demands of working parents. The free school remains open 51 weeks of the year. It has 6 terms in a year. Half-terms are fortnight long. It has a 4-week long summer holiday. All this has been derived from proposals of prospective parents.
Yorkshire has given approval initially to open in 2013 seven schools proposed, of which the Free School Leeds is one. It plans to get pupils for the school from the city of Leeds. It has planned for 96 pupils in 4 classes. 24 children will be in each of the classes one, two, three and in reception. The free school is planned to be dyslexia friendly. Pat Payne who is from the Leeds and Bradford Dyslexia Association was the first to plan for the free school in Leeds.
