The Better Riding Course is a free motorcycle training course, being offered by Isle of Wight Council to all motorcycle riders, however experienced. In a significant number of collisions, motorcyclists get involved, affecting other vehicles too. The course helps motorcyclists, who only form a small portion of license holders, to anticipate hazards while riding. A wide range of techniques are covered in the course. Included are defensive riding, advanced handling skills, cornering, observation, braking, overtaking and filtering. Basic first-aid training is included, so that if first on an accident scene, they can assist.<\/p>\n
The course also includes a practical ride with an advanced motorcyclist. The sessions also give useful feedback by instructors on people’s riding techniques. The executive member for public protection and PFI, Wight Council, Councillor Phil Jordon, said that this is a free course<\/a> run over 2 sessions. The sessions are being held on 18th<\/sup> March and 19th<\/sup> March, this year, at the Sandown Fire Station, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM.
