Ulverston Dickensian Festival 2017 is arriving soon

The Ulverston Dickensian Festival of 2017 is a two-day event in celebration of of all things Dickensian and takes place in Ulverston on 25th and 26th November. One of the biggest dates in the market town’s calendar, the weekend will be lined up with family-friendly activities for all, including stalls, costume parades and performances.

Festival-goers will be using fashion items of yesteryears and enjoying most certainly the mulled wine to be served. The historic market town in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, will have cobbled streets, a line-up of traders, fantastic shops, cafes and great pubs. The Dickensian Festival always boasts of great variety of free events and entertainment, activities for children, costume competitions, music, dancing, horse-drawn carriages and fantastic Christmas market stalls, offering festive food and unique gifts.

On Saturday (25 November), there will be a procession of period costume, parading through the streets, with a marching band, Queen Victoria and the town’s Mayor accompanying! The parade will start at 3pm from County Square, to head to New Market Street. It will pass through Fountain St and King St, cross Market Place, to reach Queen St and then turn to Theatre St. It will end at the stage where judging is to done, at about 3:30pm. At 4pm, the Christmas Lights switch-on will be held.

On Sunday (25 November), another grand procession will be held and following the same route. It will also begin at County Square, at 2pm. After the finish the judging will be held at 2:30pm. The free event will, as always, be covered online during the programme and in print after the festival gets over.
